Tuba Down Under

Vår stjernetubaist, Ståle Sleire Johansen, har turnert Australia i sommar!

Turen starta i Melbourne der han var solist under NABfest.

The worldwide profile of the festival has also enabled organisers to attract leading international brass musicians to Melbourne, with Sheona White, Philippe Schwartz and Ståle Sleire Johansen featuring as tutors and performers during the festival, which culminates with the ‘Voice of Metal’ concert at the Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Southbank Centre, Melbourne on Saturday July 5th

Speaking to 4BR, Norwegian tuba virtuoso, Stale Sleire Johansen commented: «It is a great honour to be invited as guest soloists and tutors as part of the National Australia Brass Festival and the Global Academy Project.(4barsrest)

Vidare gjekk turen til Byron Bay, Newcastle for meir speling og instruering av unge utøvarar under eit prosjekt som heiter GAP, før det heile vart avslutta i Sidney.

“The Global Academy Project – GAP is an incredibly exciting educational program which provides an opportunity for us as international soloists to be involved with not just performing but also working with the incredible young talents from within the National Australia Brass Academy. There are some remarkable young musicians studying on the Academy mentor program here in Australia.” (Norwegian tuba soloist and Geneva artist Stale Sleire Johansen)

“Stale’s visit to Australia has been ‘a breath of fresh air’ to the many brass players that have benefitted from his musicianship and enthusiasm as a mentor. It has been an inspiration to experience his energy and genuine desire to share his passion for music, particularly his impact on the young musicians he has mentored and encouraged during his visit. We all look forward to Stale’s next trip to Australia with eager anticipation.” (Jamie Lawson)

For dei som ikkje kjenner Ståle, kan eg fortelle at det er få (ingen?) inststrument den mannen ikkje kan beherske!

Happy International Tuba Day!

I dag er det «International Tuba Day», hurra!

«International Tuba Day was created for both tuba players and non-tuba players alike….International Tuba Day is your day to learn more about the significance of the tuba in our musical society. It’s your day to see how the tuba is the backbone of the band with the capability of playing much more than just «oompah!» More importantly, International Tuba Day is your day to recognize the tuba player as being a talented master of musical performance who physically comes in all different shapes and sizes. Of course, if you do play the tuba, International Tuba Day is your day to sit back, relax, and enjoy your much deserved recognition!»
